Coleman

40 Years of Empowering Overlooked Potential

For more than four decades, Cherri Coleman has worked across classical ballet, arts education, and creative program design—bringing rigorous methodology, individual insight, and creative intelligence to the development of people, programs, and ideas.

From founding her own school and performing company to designing interdisciplinary residencies, cultural programs, and community initiatives, she has built a career around recognizing potential in unexpected places—and finding what is needed to help it emerge.

Before this became a profession, it was a life story.

As a child, Coleman watched the arts accomplish things that seemed impossible. Her brother, who struggled with severe dyslexia, learned to read through movement. A friend with a brain injury learned to speak through the study of opera. A teacher who had been left unable to walk by polio regained strength through ballet—and became a professional ballerina.

She learned very young not to underestimate what the arts—or a human being—could do.

That understanding sent her looking for answers.

She sought out exceptional teachers, followed artistic lineages to their sources, and studied across disciplines—classical ballet, theatre, storytelling, cognition, creative thinking, education, and systems design—while simultaneously building schools, productions, programs, and learning experiences. Each new challenge sent her in search of better knowledge, stronger methods, and unexpected connections.

Forty years later, that inquiry still drives her work.

Core Beliefs js-hero-timeline

  • Empty theater with rows of green and black seats, ornate gold balconies and red velvet curtains in the background.

    Potential Is Not a Privilege

Extraordinary ability is not confined to ideal bodies, ideal circumstances, or obvious candidates.

  • Excellence Is a Teachable Skill

Great work is not the product of talent or luck. Clear methodology, intelligent progression, high standards, and individual attention can make the seemingly impossible achievable.

  • The Arts Are Powerful

The arts do more than enrich human experience. They can change the brain itself—building and strengthening neural pathways through movement, music, language, rhythm, and sensory experience, expanding human potential and creating pathways to transcend barriers once thought immovable.

  • Constraints Are Creative Material

Constraints, taken seriously, can force ingenuity and reveal possibilities abundance might have hidden.

  • Difference Is an Opportunity

The student who learns differently, the dancer whose body defies the usual correction, the community that doesn't fit the standard model—difference is not a problem to be eliminated. It is an invitation to innovate.

  • Challenge Is an Invitation

A worthy challenge calls forward intelligence, resourcefulness, courage, and abilities that may never have had a chance to appear.

  • Reality Can Be Redesigned

Imagination allows us to envision something different; knowledge, skill, and disciplined action give us the power to make it real.
